"The African Adventure of the Baker's Dozen"
-
Sam Keavy, 1998
-
-
Of all exotic places where a group of folks should meet
-
In Nairobi, Kenya, not exactly your Main Street
-
A group of Yankee travellers braving the heat
-
But glad to be away from winter's ice and sleet.
-
-
No sooner do we land and rest, we're on our way again
-
To board a single engine plane no bigger than a wren
-
We fly about an hour with bubbles in the belly
-
Our guide, young Cosmas, sez', "We're in the Amboseli".
-
-
From the Amboseli we're off again in Rovers
-
Six of us in each van yelling "move over"
-
Finally we cross the border into Tanzania
-
Oops! a stomach growl, could that be diarrhea?
-
-
We stop in arusha for a hearty lunch
-
Then on to Manyara, a really sorry bunch
-
The road, a devil's trap, an awful bump and crunch
-
It makes you feel like you've been hit by Satan's wicked punch.
-
-
Then on to Ngorongoro Crater in great anticipation
-
But first a stop for lunch at a coffee plantation
-
On and on we drive getting very black and blue
-
What makes it all worthwhile is Ngorongoro's view.
-
-
A day in the crater is full of wondrous sights
-
A plethora of oohs! and aah! and just a touch of fright
-
The battle of nature's balance of survival for life
-
Was shown to us vividly in terms of beauty and strife.
-
-
Then off to Serengeti's plains that never seem to end
-
So, vast, so beautiful, so hard to comprehend
-
Soon the rumors fly and suddenly we know
-
Our ever alert leader has forgotten all his clothes.
-
-
Our magical adventure continues on and on
-
To the Masai Mara at the crack of dawn
-
Like birds we fly on wings hell-bent
-
To find we will spend three nights in canvas tents?
-
-
It's 6:00 a.m. on an early morn
-
We're soon to be balloon airborne
-
Our guide poor Cosmas says,"Alas
-
Your beautiful balloon is out of gas!"
-
-
At last our journey nears its close
-
Free from all our ails and woes
-
We'll board our planes with all our goods
-
We spent two weeks with Tiger Woods!
